Today’s Composer Prompt (Nature Documentary)

Imagine you have been asked to score a short nature documentary. There are a variety of scenes you must set to music with a wide dramatic range between them. There is (as is often the case in short films) a complicating factor: the budget is very limited, so you may only hire 7 performers to realize your score. You may not ask any of them to “double” on another instrument (performers can charge extra for that service). Your mission: choose which instruments can be most impactful in realizing your score. Then write a score with the following scenes:

-a wolf stalking and hunting down prey
-a school of fish near a coral reef in clear blue tropical waters
-fawns taking their first tentative steps
-a herd of elephants giving themselves a bath at a mud hole on a hot afternoon
