A piece for woodwind quintet.
Single movement. Avoid explicitly sectional forms (binary, ternary)–make use of motives in a stream of continuous development.
You may only notate rhythm, tempo, articulation, and dynamics (a single line staff will suffice for each part). To each instrument, assign a set of pitches the performer may choose from. You may, at your discretion, allow a “modulation” (choose new eligible pitches for each voice).
Keep in mind that in choosing the pitch sets, you are also controlling the level of relative consonance and dissonance.
